I've tried mandolin straps in many different ways: over the right shoulder, around the back, attached to the end of the neck, attached to the body. None of them worked well: to hold the instrument in place I needed to either pinch the body with my right elbow or hold up the neck with my left hand. Neither was comfortable for long times. But then I had an idea:

By clipping the strap to my belt loop the mandolin stays exactly where I want it to. I've been playing this way for about three months and it is so much better.
